Review: Skip Hop Toddler Backpack

As Lucy has gotten older, it gets easier in some ways to travel with her. One of the things that is easier is that she is starting to be able to carry her own things! The last few trips we have been on, she has carried her Skip Hop Toddler Backpack through airports and around on our adventures and it has been so great! It lets me carry fewer things myself and allows me to carry a smaller bag which is nice when traveling and being on the go.

Features of the Skip Hop Toddler Backpack:

I really love how high quality the Skip Hop Toddler Backpacks are. I bought Lucy’s secondhand from a yard sale and aside from a little dirt, it had held up wonderfully well. And after using it for almost a year it is still holding up great.

The Skip Hop Toddler Backpack has one large, main pocket and a smaller pocket in front as well as a water bottle pocket on the side. (Lucy always carries her Contigo water bottle there). The backpacks come with soft, adjustable straps as well as a handle to hang from or use to carry. If we are using our stroller (here) I usually will clip Lucy’s backpack onto one of our giant carabiners that we have on the stroller and it holds up great.

There are also lots of fun animals to choose from in the Skip Hop Toddler Backpack line. There is sure to be an animal or creature that your kids will love. Like I mentioned before, Lucy has the Ladybug backpack since that is what I happened to find at a yard sale, but if we were choosing from all the options, I think Lucy would go with the giraffe or the llama (but the pig and the unicorn are also some of my favorites!)

How We Use the Skip Hop Toddler Backpack:

Like I mentioned above, we have been using Lucy’s Ladybug Skip Hop Toddler Backpack on our last few vacations and trips. It is roomy enough to hold bigger activities and snacks in the large pocket and smaller toys and activities in the smaller pocket. Plus she always has to have her water bottle wherever we go, so it is nice that it has its own spot where it fits snugly.

We bring her backpack with us on our trips and let her have access to it when we actually start the flight (if we are flying) or we strategically hand out things to her if we are on a road trip. She enjoys pulling different things out and putting them away more than the actual activities most of the time!

When we are traveling, we usually keep a magazine, a few board books (this one is one of her current favorites), a notepad, stickers and crayons, an iPad loaded with some of her favorite shows and movies, headphones (which we still haven’t fully convinced her to use yet; she’s fine watching shows without sound), a snack cup and a Water Wow book all in the main, large pocket. In the smaller pocket we keep a mini MagnaDoodle board, some lacing cards, finger puppets, a small car, a teether and other small toys (currently some farm animals).

We also use this backpack as Lucy’s church bag every week. She keeps lots of the same things in the bag (with the exception of the iPad and headphones) and is happy to carry it to and from our church building every week without any problem.

Sum Up:

If you’re looking for a great backpack for your toddler to help them learn to carry their own things, the Skip Hop Toddler Backpack is a great starter backpack. It has only two areas to hold things plus has a water bottle pocket. The straps are sturdy and well made, plus the overall look of these Skip Hop Toddler Backpacks are so cute!
