6 Tips for Going to the Beach

We don’t live near any oceans, but we really love going on trips to places with beaches and we spend quite a bit of time each summer at lake and reservoir beaches near us. In the last few years we have been to quite a few beaches and have had successful trips. Today I’m going to be sharing my top 6 tips for having a successful beach day!

Sunscreen

Don’t forget your sunscreen! Make sure to sunscreen up before you get to the beach and remember to reapply if you’re going to be out in the sun for a while.

Shade

Make sure you bring some shade with you. Beaches are generally warm and sunny and wonderful places to be, until you get too hot! Make sure to bring your own shade. This can be anything from a full sized canopy, beach umbrella or a simple hat to keep the sun off of you. If you are traveling with little ones, we really love small portable tents that are a great way for instant shade to protect your young one.

Snacks

Snacks are always a must when you’re at the beach! Especially if you’re at an oceanside beach, you will want to make sure you have plenty of snacks and drinks to keep you going throughout your beach day.

Transportation

Make sure you have a good way to haul all of your stuff down to the beach. If you have older kids with you make sure everyone can carry their own things. We really like to use our utility wagon when we are headed to our local lake to haul all of our stuff to our beach spot. It makes loading and unloading so much easier and usually only requires one trip.

Activities

Make sure you bring fun beach activities! Some of our favorite things to bring are sand toys for Lucy, a Kindle for me, and Ben likes to take his paddle board and our kayak when we head to our local lake. Other fun beach activities are ladder golf, bocce ball, corn hole and Spikeball.

Baby Powder

The last tip is probably one of my favorites! Make sure you bring some baby powder with you on your next beach visit. Before getting in to your car, sprinkle some baby powder on your feet and on your kids’ feet. Rub them with a bowl and the sand melts right off! No more sandy car on the say home!
