Travel Guide to Grand Teton National Park

We were able to spend about two days in Grand Teton National Park last summer. It was a great little trip and we were able to find some great things to do in our short time there. Today I’m going to be highlighting some of our favorite things and sharing some tips on what to do and when.

Day 1:

Marina at Colter Bay in Grand Teton National Park

On our first day in Grand Teton National Park, we got there around 9:00 in the morning. We had spent the previous few days camping and exploring in Yellowstone National Park and it was easy for us to get into Grand Teton at a decent time in the morning. We were able to get a campsite at the Colter Bay Campground. The Colter Bay Area is a great hub in Grand Teton National Park. There are lots of your necessities all in one spot. There is a grocery store, laundromat, visitor’s center, gift shops as well as a restaurant or two all very close to the campground.

After we got our campsite and set up camp, we had a quick picnic lunch at our campsite before going off to explore more of Grand Teton National Park. The first thing we did was head over to Jenny Lake. Jenny Lake is probably one of the most popular spots in Grand Teton National Park. With that being said, it is a good idea to get there earlier in the day. We went after lunch and it was very, very crowded. In the Jenny Lake area there is a visitor’s center, gift shop, restaurants and snack shops. There is also Jenny Lake that has some rocky beaches around the edge, hiking trails and a shuttle boat that you can purchase tickets for to take you across the lake. If you head across the lake, make sure to hike to Hidden Falls. It was one of our favorite hikes that we did on this trip.

After spending the afternoon at Jenny Lake, we headed over to Mormon Row for some quick pictures before heading back to our campsite for the night.

Day 2:

The Tetons and Jackson Lake at Grand Teton National Park

We packed up early after camping overnight and we then headed to the Lake Shore Trail near the Colter Bay Visitor’s Center. It was a really nice trail that takes you out on a peninsula to see some gorgeous lake and mountain views. It was probably the longest hike we did (around 2 miles I believe) and Lucy was able to hike almost the whole thing. It was a really fun and beautiful hike and a great way to spend our morning!

After our hike, we hit up the gift shops and got ready to start leaving the park. On our way out we stopped at another historical site: The Cunningham Cabin. This was a quick stop that we made so Lucy could finish her Junior Ranger book before we left the park.

On our way out of the park, we spent a few hours in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where we did some shopping and had lunch before heading home that afternoon.

Sum Up:

Grand Teton National Park is a great park to visit. There are things to do for every family! Even though we were only there for a short time, there is plenty to do if you want a longer trip or there are a few key things that are great to do if you only have a few hours.
