Whenever we go to large cities, we always look into the local options for city passes. These are passes that get you into some of the top attractions for a fraction of the cost. We have used city passes in Paris, London and Boston. Today I’m going to be sharing how we used our Boston City Pass.
What is a City Pass?
A City Pass is a company that has passes in many major cities. City Pass as a company works with the top attractions in a city and offers a discounted price on tickets to those attractions by buying a City Pass. Usually you get a list of attractions you can enter for free after purchasing a City Pass as well as a couple of activities you can choose from.
You purchase a ticket through City Pass and then redeem vouchers at the various attractions. Generally purchasing a City Pass is cheaper than buying individual entry to each of the attractions. But you should always do your research to see if it is a good choice for your trip. On top of getting discounted entry, City Pass usually comes with extra coupons to save more money with some of their other partners and lots of times (my favorite feature!) allows you to skip lines at the main attractions and get right in.
What’s on the Boston City Pass?
The Boston City Pass gets you into 4 attractions. The New England Aquarium, the Museum of Science, the Skywalk Observatory, and either a Boston Harbor Cruise or Harvard Museum of Natural History. We did all 3 main attractions and chose to do the Boston Harbor Cruise as our fourth attraction. We split our viewing over two days. One evening we did the Museum of Science and then we took another day to do the New England Aquarium, Skywalk Observatory and the Boston Harbor Cruise.
How Do I Use the Boston City Pass?
First you will need to purchase your Boston City Pass online. You can either print a redemption voucher for your Boston City Pass booklet or you can have the booklets shipped to you. We opted for the voucher since it was easier. If you go this route, you simply take the voucher to your first venue and redeem it there. They will give you your Boston City Pass booklet and will take your ticket for that attraction. You will have 9 days from your first entry to use the passes in your Boston City Pass.
At each attraction you go to, you just show the employees your Boston City Pass and they will redeem your ticket. Look for signs at the attractions as well as the tickets in your book to see which attractions have expedited lines so you can get in faster.
Sum Up:
The Boston City Pass is a great way to see Boston. It gets you into some of the top attractions and saves you quite a bit of money as well as time when you don’t have to wait in line. We really enjoyed all four of the attractions we did and highly recommend the Boston City Pass!
