New Retro Travel Posters, Announcing the Disney World Collection

Today we are pleased to announce the release of the first three posters in a new collection of retro travel posters featuring iconic sites from Disney World. For these first three we have chosen three of the most iconic sites of the Magic Kingdom: Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and, of course, Cinderella’s Castle.

Why Retro Posters

Encapsulating travel memories is an important part of travel for us and we have detailed some of the ways that we do this in a previous blog post. One way that we do that is by buying souvenirs, nothing expensive or extravagant, but we always get a magnet to commemorate to each trip we go on. For several years I have been really into the magnets that look like old travel posters.

This poster style was popular during the era of the WPA and the New Deal.  I have always found this style to be a really great encapsulation of a place. For the 100th birthday of the National Parks a whole series of these posters was done with one for each park.

Since I loved this poster style and am a designer myself I wanted to learn to produce these retro posters of the places we have been. I’ve tried several different approaches to these posters and have previously done a collection on some of the National Parks we have visited and also some of our favorite spots in Europe.

Since the Disney Parks are some of our favorite places to visit I knew I wanted to do a collection of posters for them at some point, but the process of creating a retro poster can be long and I put it off for a long time. It wasn’t until Affinity Publisher released with the ability to easily work on vectors, rasters, and text in one place that I got excited about making these posters again. The workflow is not fast now, but it is quite a bit faster than it was.

To help others learn this process, I have also released a new course that shows my whole process in creating the Cinderella Castle poster. That course can be found on Skillshare.

I think that these retro travel posters can serve as a great reminder of where you have been or as inspiration for where you want to go. Disney World I a cherished memory of ours, so I love having these posters. If you would like to pick one up please go to our Etsy shop.

If these posters are making you want to go on a Disney trip right now, don’t forget that you can save money by using our affiliate code with Get Away Today: YellowVan. We always use Get Away Today for getting the best deals at Disney parks.
