Walking to Weeping Rock at Zion National Park

Near the north end of the Zion Scenic drive is an alcove of rock that is perpetually crying. The walk to Weeping Rock is one of the shortest trails in Zion National Park. For a short train though it does have considerable amount of elevation gain (about 100 feet).

How to Get to Weeping Rock

Getting to the Weeping Rock trail is simple. You can simply take the Zion Shuttle bus all the wake to the Weeping Rock shuttle stop. The Shuttle operates during the peak season which is April through October. During that time you are not allowed to drive past the Mt. Carmel highway.

If you visit outside peak season you can drive your car up the Zion Scenic Drive and park at the Weeping Rock shuttle stop.

A short way up from the shuttle stop the path will split. A sign will show you that Weeping Rock is to the left and the East Rim Trail is to the right. Make sure you go left if you want to get to Weeping Rock. The East Rim Trail is much longer and more difficult.

What You Will See at Weeping Rock

Immediately the trail will begin to incline and it will continue that way until the end. The trail is paved the whole way up, so if you are strong you could push a wheelchair or stroller up it, the difficult part would probably be in coming back down.

The walk is very quick, you can probably go there and back in about 20 minutes. When you reach the Weeping Rock alcove there are some steps to climb to get behind the weeping fall. You get a nice mist anywhere along the Weeping Rock that is very refreshing in the hot summer whether.

Sum Up

This is a short and fairly easy walk to a refreshing location. I recommend you take the 20 or 30 minutes to do it. It is not one of the most popular points in Zion so you don’t have to deal with a lot of crowds.

There are restrooms located at the trail head.
