How to Spend a Day at Dinosaur National Monument

Dinosaur National Monument is a great day trip for families! We spent a day there with our then 6 month old daughter and we had a fantastic day. Below is an outline of how we spent our day.

Visitor’s Center:

Start out your day at the Visitor’s Center. This is a great place to fill up your water bottles, use the restroom, get a map and talk to a ranger. They can give you some good ideas of things that would fit you and your family.

Quarry Exhibit Hall:

This is the main thing to see at Dinosaur National Monument. You can go into an enclosed building that houses a large stone filled with dinosaur fossils. It is so cool! Check out our full blog post about it here.

Fossil Discovery Trail:

Just down the hill from the parking lot of the Quarry Exhibit Hall, is the start of the Fossil Discovery Trail. You can see quite a few fossils out along the trail. We had kind of a hard time finding them, but it was still a good family-friendly hike. Our full post is here.

Josie’s Ranch:

Josie’s Ranch is a fun place at Dinosaur National Park for families. It takes a break from the dinos and gives you a glimpse into what homesteading was like in the area. There is a small cabin and out buildings, a picnic area and 2 easy hikes. Find out more here.

Seeing the Petroglyphs:

There are quite a few petroglyphs found throughout Dinosaur National Monument. Check out our post here to find out where the best places are to see them.
