Grand Prismatic Spring at Yellowstone National Park

While Old Faithful may be the most popular destination in Yellowstone National Park, Grand Prismatic Spring is probably the most photographed. Grand Prismatic Spring has some of the brightest, natural colors you have probably ever seen. Because of its beauty, it is a very popular area of the park to visit.

How to Get to Grand Prismatic Spring:

Grand Prismatic Spring is located in the Midway Geyser Basin. This area is located on the West side of the park, just North of the Old Faithful area. There is a large parking lot where you can park before heading up a short trail that leads up to the Grand Prismatic Spring and other pools and a geyser. Try to get there early or late in the day to avoid large crowds.

What You Will See at Grand Prismatic Spring:

Once you begin your easy hike/walk around the Midway Geyer Basin, you will first come to Excelsior Geyser. Your walk will be along a one-way boardwalk path that helps with the traffic flow of people at this popular spot.

After passing Excelsior Geyser, you will come to Grand Prismatic Spring. This is the largest pool in the area and is very wide. You will walk along a large part of it before the boardwalk turns and begins to head back towards the parking lot. As you continue back towards where you started you will pass Opal Pool and Turquoise Pool. All of these wonders have bright, vibrant colors with Grand Prismatic Spring having the most variety of colors.

Sum Up:

Grand Prismatic is my favorite place in all of Yellowstone National Park. A lot of other people like it too! So it can be quite a busy place. Make sure that you get there early or later in the day to avoid the big crowds. Also be sure to stay on the boardwalks and do not throw anything into the springs or pools.
