Before going to New York City last fall, I checked the weather and saw that we could expect a LOT of rain. Knowing that I didn’t have a good water-resistant jacket and knowing that we would be walking for basically 3 days straight outside, I knew I needed to find something that would keep me dry and happy. When we had gone to London a few years ago, I ordered a cheap rain jacket on Amazon that ended up being terrible and didn’t keep me dry at all the few days that it really, really rained. I knew that I wanted to get a jacket that would actually work so I headed to Eddie Bauer to see what they had.
Eddie Bauer Cloud Cap Rain Jacket
I went to Eddie Bauer because they have a FANTASTIC return policy. If one of their products ever breaks or doesn’t work for you, you can return it and exchange it for a functioning product or for in-store credit. We have had to use that policy a couple of times and each time it has been an easy and wonderful experience. I knew that if this rain jacket didn’t work out I could easily return it and get my money back.
Because it doesn’t rain much in Utah, I knew I would be mostly using this jacket when traveling so it was important to me to get one that could pack down fairly small. The Cloud Cap Rain Jacket does just that. It can fold into one of the (large) pockets of the jacket and does not take up much room. Perfect for traveling!
I also wanted a rain jacket that had a good hood on it that would easily cover my head and had a good brim that would keep the rain from dripping into my face. This Cloud Cap Rain Jacket has a large hood that easily fits my head (even when I have a top knot!) and has a good brim that doesn’t let water fall in my face.
When I went into the Eddie Bauer store, I had the Cloud Cap Rain Jacket as well as the Rainfoil Jacket in mind. I wanted to try them on and see what the difference was. One of the nice clerks at the store really helped me out and answered my questions about the differences and which would be good for my main purposes of keeping me dry while I traveled and could pack small enough to easily fit in a suitcase. She helped me decide on the Cloud Cap because it was a little bit lighter weight and could easily be used for warmer weather when it rained and as long as it was layered underneath could also keep me dry and warm in cooler weather as well.
Using the Cloud Cap Rain Jacket
Like I mentioned, I mainly got this jacket to wear in New York City when Ben and I were there this fall and it was supposed to rain a lot of the time we were there. It worked fantastic! There was one day we were there where it literally downpoured all morning leaving huge puddles/lakes all over the city and where my jacket covered, I stayed completely dry and warm.
I also used it on our Thanksgiving trip to Disneyland where it completely poured all. day. long. our first day in the park. Again, where my jacket covered kept me very dry and warm.
Sum Up
I have the Cloud Cap Rain Jacket in the color Chrome but it also comes in a couple other fun colors you can see here. I really love how well it works. I also love the large zippered pockets that made it easy to keep my phone and other important things close and secure. It packs down so easily and small that it is so easy to travel with which is a huge thing for me. While the price is a little more than I would usually pay, I think if you can get it on sale (40% off sales happen very often at Eddie Bauer) it is definitely worth the investment. I had a $10 gift certificate as well as some in store credit (from a previous jacket that ended up ripping) that I used to make the purchase. I really, really like this jacket and would highly suggest it if you’re looking for a travel friendly rain jacket!
