When you’re visiting Hawaii, you always have the opportunity for adventure. Even if you have a very detailed itinerary, there are going to be times when you happen to stumble onto a beautiful beach or an amazing forrest and you need to stop and explore. During our week long trip to Hawaii, it only took us a day or two to realize what we should just leave in our car so we were always ready for an adventure!
1. Towels
Always have some beach towels in your car! You never know when you’re going to feel a strong need to go play in the ocean or swim at the base of a waterfall. Plus it often rains for a bit every day and it is nice to have something to dry off with if you get caught.
2. Sunscreen
The sun can really get you when you’re in Hawaii. We always liked to keep some sunscreen in our car when we were visiting. We would lotion up before we left the house but we always had to reapply throughout the day and it was nice just to keep a bottle in the car so that we always had some when we needed it.
3. Beach Chairs and Blanket
You are going to stop at a beach when you aren’t planning on it. That’s one of the great things about Hawaii! There’s always a beach to go to! Our beach chairs from our vacation rental basically stayed in the back of our car for the entire week. And we used them basically every day! We also liked having a packable beach blanket with us for Lucy (and since we didn’t have enough chairs for everyone).
4. Beach and Water Toys and Gear
I was going to say that this one is more for if you have little kids with you, but my brothers and my dad really enjoyed some of the water toys and gear we always kept in our cars. For Lucy we had a big bucket with shovels and other fun sand toys that we took with us to every beach. And we also always had a boogie board or two as well as some snorkel gear at the ready.
5. Swimming Suit
Even if you aren’t planning on going to the beach or going swimming, keep your swimming suit in your car! You never know when you will stop at a beach and want to swim or play and it really stinks to not have your swimming suit with you.
