The Punchbowl, officially known as the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, is a great way to kill some time as you’re waiting for your flight out of Honolulu. In addition to being a National Cemetery, there are some beautiful gardens, memorials, water features and other nice, peaceful areas to explore.
Getting to the Punchbowl:
The Punchbowl is located a little over 7 miles away from the Honolulu International Airport, right in the middle of Honolulu and not too far away from the Waikiki hotel area. To get to the Punchbowl from the airport, you simply head East on the H-1 and take Exit 21-A toward Pali Highway. From there you can follow signs to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific or follow your GPS for just another mile to get to the Punchbowl. The official address of the Punchbowl is 2177 Puowaina Drive Honolulu, Hawaii.
What To Do At the Punchbowl:
The most common thing to do at the Punchbowl is to walk around the cemetery. You can see the headstones of many, many deceased servicemen and women. It is very interesting to walk around and notice the different symbols on the different headstones and to use a key to figure out what they mean.
There is also a nice memorial area that includes a chapel as well as information about various wars and battles that occurred in the Pacific. There is also a beautiful fountain area that is nice to sit by. Going up the steps of the memorial area gives great views of the Punchbowl and really lets you see what this crater looks like.
