How to Successfully Use the FastPass+ System at Disney World

If you’ve gone to any Disney park in the last few years, you will have heard all about (and probably used!) the Fast Pass system. Since we live on the western end of the United States, we are more likely to go to Disneyland over Disney World. But, earlier this year we went with some friends and our daughters to Disney World to get out of the Utah winters and enjoy some warmer weather.

Disney World still has a Fast Pass system, but (in my opinion) it is so much easier to use than at Disneyland! It is called FastPass+ and in this post I’m going to talk about how to best use the FastPass+ system at Disney World and give you some tips on how to use it most effectively.

Know When You Can Get Your FastPasses

After you purchase your tickets, you can get your FastPasses at 7:00 am Eastern Time 30 days before your visit. If you’re staying at a Disney Hotel, you can get your FastPasses 60 days before your visit.

For us, we did not purchase our tickets 30 days in advance, so while we missed out on some of the FastPass+ options, we were able to reserve our FastPass+ attractions right when we got our tickets.

Plan Where You’re Going To Be

After you’ve purchased your tickets, now you get to make FastPass+ reservations. You can do this online or on the Disney World app. Depending on what kind of tickets you got will depend on what FastPass+ attractions you will want to get.

For example, we decided we were going to spend Day 1 in Magic Kingdom, Day 2 at Epcot, Day 3 back at Magic Kingdom and Day 4 at Animal Kingdom. We did not choose to get Park Hopper tickets because I read that it can take a lot of time to get from park to park using the Disney transportation systems and that it can be hard to use some of the transportation with strollers (which we had).

When figuring out your days, you may want to check their hours because not every park is open at the same time every day. We tried to plan to go to the park the opened the earliest each day so we could maximize our time in each park.

Figure Out Your FastPass+ Options and Make Your Selections

Now that you’ve decided which days you’re going to be where, look at that park’s options for FastPass+. We looked at the options and made our top choices then planned out which times worked best for each ride/attraction. Make sure to look at a map so you can see how close things are together! Once you have decided you can make your FastPass+ selections.

Helpful Tips

  • FastPass+ selections include rides and meeting characters and shows.
  • You can reserve up to 3 FastPass+ selections on your initial reservation.
  • After you have used your first 3 FastPass+ selections of the day, you can then make addition FastPass+ reservations, one attraction at a time. Once that is used up you can make another selection, etc.
  • To get the most out of FastPass+ try to make your initial 3 selections earlier in the day. We always had our first 3 selections completed by noon and then we made additional selections throughout the rest of the day.
  • Make sure you have the Disney World app downloaded on your phone and have your account set up and tickets linked. This is where it is easiest to make your FastPass+ selections. If you do not have a phone, there are kiosks throughout the parks that you can also make FastPass+ selections on.
  • Have your tickets handy! At the start of each ride you want to use your FastPass+ on, you will need to hold your ticket up to the Mickey ears and wait for it to turn green before you can enter. Or you can purchase Magic Bands and link your tickets up to them; that way you just hold your Magic Band up to the Mickey ears and won’t have to worry about your ticket.
  • To save money on your Disney World vacation, book your tickets and hotels through Get Away Today! They have the best deals on all Disney vacations. Use the code YellowVan to save $10!
