Over MLK weekend in January, we went with some friends just outside of Las Vegas to camp, hike and rock climb. We were in the Red Rock Canyon area and had such a great time! While we did lots of adventuresome things, the scenic drive provided a nice rest with some beautiful scenery.
How to Get to Red Rock Canyon:
Once you get to Las Vegas, stay on US-95 North. You will then take Summerlin Parkway. From there you will take County Road 215, followed by Exit 26 for Charleston Boulevard. You will stay on that road for a few more miles. You will continue to see brown signs that point to the Scenic Loop.
Once you get on the Scenic Loop, you will stay on the one-way paved road for the 13 mile loop. There are plenty of places to pull off and go on some hikes or explore or you can just stay on the loop the whole way. The line to enter can get quite long, especially on the weekends. Try to get there right when the loop opens at 6:00 am and closes at sunset.
What You Will Do There:
In addition to simply driving there are a lot of hikes that you can pull off and hike. The hikes range from easy and short to long and strenuous. Lots of the hikes also can lead to rock climbing or bouldering places.
A list of all the hikes can be found here.
Sum Up:
The Red Rock Canyon Scenic Loop is a nice, pretty drive to take and is a great way to get a little bit of rest. In addition to simply driving, you can also go on lots of hikes that have a wide array of lengths and difficulties.
