3 Things to See in Portland, Maine

Like we mentioned last week, we LOVED visiting Maine last summer! We were so surprised by how much we absolutely loved our day there. We want to go back and spend much longer in that beautiful state! One of our favorite places we went was to the city of Portland. We saw lots of fun things that you shouldn’t miss on your next trip there.

1. The Port Head Lighthouse

The Port Head Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Maine. And it is the most photographed lighthouse in the world! One of the best things about seeing the lighthouse is that it is such a classic New England thing to do! Lighthouses are beautiful because they are set against beautiful scenery, and the Port Head Lighthouse is no different.

2. Fort Williams Park

Since you’ll be going to the Port Head Lighthouse, you might as well explore the park that it is located in. That’s right, Fort Williams Park is the larger park area that surrounds the Port Head Lighthouse. The park has lots of areas for picnicking and playing and hiking. It is just a fun place to explore. It is usually open from sunrise to sunset. But check out their website for specific details.

3. Visit Old Port

Old Port is the downtown, old area of Portland. There is lots of good food, fun shops and great dessert options. We spent a few hours just wandering around, shopping at some of the fun stores and stopping for a treat. We found a gelato place that actually had some of the best gelato we’ve had outside of Europe! If if you’ve been with us for a while, you know that we are kind of gelato snobs. Old Port is a fun place to explore from all the buildings and shops down to the ocean side streets.
